National High School Poll has Distinct DMV Feel.

USA Today has always been on point when it comes to covering prep and high school basketball on the national level. The Super Boys & Girls ‘Top 25’ Basketball Poll has become a marker for some of the best high school teams in the country. This week’s poll has a distinctly DMV flavor to it for both the Men and Women. The WCAC (Washington Catholic Athletic Conference) arguably is the most competitive basketball league in the country for the High School game, IMHO; It’s also well represented in this edition of the Top 25 for both Boys & Girls.

Storied DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD.) , Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) , and Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) are represented in this week’s poll at #5 (DeMatha), #8 (Gonzaga), and #16 (Paul VI) respectively. The girls poll is even more DMV-heavy, with 5 schools from the area represented (#2 St. John’s *DC*, #11 Paul VI *VA*, #15 Riverdale Baptist *MD*, #22 Bishop McNamara *MD*, #24 Rock Creek Christian *MD*).

January and February are going to be chock full of high quality competition in the Metro Area, going into March. If you’re in the area for a spell and you wanna see some high quality high school ball, you can’t go wrong with PG County, the WCAC, or any number of spots inside or outside of the D.C. City limits and suburbs. Good basketball is good basketball, and some of the best high school and prep basketball in the country can be found right here, in the DMV.

Welp, that’s all for this week’s installment of HHG. Check out some of this WCAC action, courtesy of CapitolHoops.com.
